Logistics is currently under great cost pressure due to the turmoil in the Red Sea, so many shipping lines are automatically applying an additional "war risk surcharge" to shipments already loaded onto vessels.
At the same time, goods traveling from Asia to Europe that have to go around the Cape of Good Hope instead of through the Suez Canal as usual take an extra 9 days, from 31 days to 40 days. Oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers take twice as long to transport, adding millions of USD in costs to each shipment.
Understanding this problem, the Sea-Air shipping service was born, using a multimodal transport model that combines sea freight and air freight. So what are the characteristics of this method? What is the shipping process and what are the procedures? Let's explore the details with Embassy in this article!
What Is Sea-Air Shipping?
Combined sea-air shipping is a combination of sea freight and air freight that is most strongly developed on routes from Asian countries, with transshipment in Dubai. The shipping route is usually carried out as follows:
- Sea freight: Ho Chi Minh Port – Jebel Ali Port (Dubai)
- Complete transit procedures and move the goods from the port to Dubai Airport (DXB)
- Air freight from Dubai Airport to the destination
Embassy Freight Service currently offers two main multimodal sea-air shipping routes:
- Vietnam transships goods by sea to Bangkok (Thailand) and then ships by air to Europe (EU)
- Vietnam transships goods by sea to Dubai and then ships by air to Europe (EU)

Why You Should Use Embassy Freight Service's Sea-Air Shipping Service
Many shipping routes: Companies that ship goods regularly surely understand how important the choice of transport route and carrier is. With the diverse routes accumulated over more than 20 years, Embassy Freight can commit to arranging the nearest, best and most convenient routes for you.
Proactive shipping: Arranging transport proactively helps customers save a great deal of time and cost. For dangerous goods, when they arrive at the port and are stored there, the storage fee is 5 million per hour. So being proactive in shipping helps businesses save a lot of time and cost, not to mention issues that arise during cargo handling.

The Advantages of Using the Sea-Air Shipping Service
- Priority stowage on the sea leg: the cargo is stowed at the highest position in the vessel's hold, with priority unloading immediately on arrival at port, and other exclusive advantages.
- Synchronizing the arrival time of the sea leg with the flight time of the air leg to increase the stability of the delivery time
- Proactively track and monitor the shipment through our proactive tracking and monitoring system to respond promptly when the plan changes
- Support the environmental aspects of your business by proactively reducing carbon emissions

The Sea-Air Shipping Process
For the exporter, it is simply the process of completing sea export procedures. For the carrier, the process is more complex, specifically as follows:
- Receive the sea booking from the exporter
- Obtain the sea booking from the carrier or Master consol
- Send the sea booking to the exporter along with the draft bill (bill of lading) for the sea shipment.
- Monitor the delivery process and the declaration at the CFS warehouse at Hai Phong port.
- Ask the exporter to send instructions for issuing the sea bill
- Issue the sea bill and send it to the exporter, asking them to check and confirm the bill
- Send the sea booking alert to the transshipment agent and request that they arrange the cargo handling plan
- Send the sea Pre-alert to the agent at the transshipment port
- The agent at the transshipment port will handle the sea cargo receipt procedures and move the goods to the airport in the transshipment country.
- The agent at the transshipment port will book the air freight for the shipment
- The agent at the transshipment port will ship the goods by air and monitor the shipment's progress, updating the destination agent.
